In this light-hearted story of female friendships and Girl Power, filled with music, dance, comedy, pathos and drama, six girls in Kolkata form a dance group, Waack Girls, and try and make a go of it in a city and country that knows nothing about waacking. The story follows the formation of the group and its trajectory, as well as the individual personal lives of the girls as they negotiate mothers, fathers and themselves. The two leads who drive the plot are Ishani, expert waacker, leader of the group, and Lopa, their manager. Ishani lives in a magnificent crumbling mansion that once saw better days with her grandfather Dadu, a legendary theatre actor. Some years ago, Ishani discovered waacking as a result of a personal trauma. When the story begins, waacking is sacred for her and she actively resists Lopa's attempts to coopt her into starting a waacking group.
