Neelagiri is a 1991 Malayalam film directed by I. V. Sasi and starring Mammootty, Madhoo, and Sunitha. The film's storyline is centered around the titular Neelagiri forest range in India and is said to be inspired by real-life events. Mammootty plays the role of Ravi Varma, a wealthy businessman who owns a tea plantation in the Neelagiri range. Madhoo plays his love interest, Asha, who is a doctor working in the nearby town. Sunitha plays Renuka, a tribal girl who lives in the forest and is the love interest of one of Ravi's workers, Rangan.

The film begins with Ravi arriving at his estate in the Neelagiri range. He is accompanied by his friend and business partner, Devan. As they settle in, Ravi is informed of the plight of the tribal people living in the nearby forest, who are being evicted by the government in order to make way for a hydroelectric project. Ravi is sympathetic and decides to help the tribals by providing them with food, shelter, and medicine.

Meanwhile, Asha arrives in the town and begins her work as a doctor. She meets Ravi and they fall in love. However, their relationship is strained by Ravi's belief that the tribals are being wronged and Asha's belief that the government's project is for the greater good.

As tensions rise, Ravi and Devan uncover a corrupt deal between the government officials and the contractors working on the project. They decide to expose the corruption but are met with resistance from the authorities. Ravi also faces opposition from the contractors, who try to sabotage his tea plantation as a means of retaliating against him.

Rangan and Renuka's love story runs parallel to the main plot. Rangan is a devoted worker on Ravi's plantation and Renuka is a shy tribal girl. They fall in love but are met with opposition from their communities. Eventually, they elope and face the wrath of the tribals and the plantation workers.

The film climaxes with a tense standoff between the tribals and the government authorities. Ravi and Devan successfully expose the corruption, but it is too late to stop the project. The tribals refuse to leave their homes and the authorities resort to violence. Ravi, Asha, and Devan try to negotiate a peaceful resolution, but the situation escalates and leads to a tragic conclusion.

Neelagiri is a well-crafted film that explores themes of love, justice, and the clash of ideologies. It boasts strong performances from its lead actors and a powerful soundtrack by composer Johnson. The film's message about the importance of preserving the environment and respecting the rights of indigenous communities is particularly relevant in today's world. Overall, Neelagiri is a must-watch for fans of Malayalam cinema and anyone interested in socially-conscious storytelling.
