In the film, there were interviews from many writers, artists, and filmmakers who tell their experience during the post World War I period. The Weimar Republic came into power in 1919 in . During the early 1920s the Weimar Republic had financial trouble for a brief time based on the war costs and went under hyperinflation. In 1924 the American banks had lent the German government money to get back on their feet based on the Dawes Plan. The country had prospered for a few years until the crash of 1929. When America went through the Great Depression, the Weimar Republic suffered greatly. In 1933 Adolf Hitler came into office and established the Enabling Act, a document that gave the Nazi party full power in government decisions. The Weimar Republic fell and the Third Reich came into power.
