Breath of Life is an Italian drama film that is based at a tuberculosis clinic in Palermo, Italy during the mid-1940's. An Italian World War II soldier named Gesualdo has contracted the deadly disease and has been placed in the clinic. Many other young patients are also there, and each of them, including Gesualdo, seeks to come to with the magnitude of their illness and the realization that they will likely die. In the end, Gesualdo makes a miraculous recovery, but is the only patient at the clinic to survive the ordeal of tuberculosis. All of the other patients and the medical personnel eventually die from the disease, and Gesualdo alone is left to recount the trying events that have unfolded at the clinic which have forced him to confront the realities of human mortality. 16215u
