Two roommates, one a sensitive, shy piano tuner; the other an unkempt, but attractive writer both take an interest in their upstairs neighbor. At first they are annoyed with her crude attempts to play the piano. Annoyance gives way to obsession as both roommates develop a romantic interest in their neighbor. The upstairs neighbor falls in love with the unkempt writer, not knowing that the piano tuner has been in love with her all along, leaving him to fantasize about her.
